I will be towing my boat out from Massachusetts & camping at Aloha State Park. Looking for cool places to stop along the way. Also, anyone know how long it will take to get from Mullett Lake to the locks? |

I spent a week there last year. If you travel west through the Indian river, Burt lake, and towards crooked lake you'll come a Clam lock that raises you about a foot. That is a nice mellow all day trip. I see places to eat here and there but don't know what the good ones are. If you travel east up th Cheboygen River you'll passed through the Cheboygen lock that drops you down 15 feet! Keep going and you dump into big water and you'll see Mackinaw bridge to your left which is about 20 miles from there. We went to Mackinaw Island for the day since the water was predicted to be calm. That is a nice trip if the weather is good. Also avoid the Hackamatack Resturaunte on Cheboygen river-the food is great but your bill will make you want to jump off the Mackinaw Bridge! |

Thanks for the reply. Any idea how long the trip takes from Mullett Lake out to Mackinac island? Also, even for a calm day - is it too much of a trip for an 18' bowrider? |

From Aloha it will take you 2-3 hours depending on boat traffic and conditions on the big lakes. We encountered 3-4' waves on the way back from Mackinaw Island because of small storm that blew through. If you have an open bow I would definitly think twice unless there isn't a chance of weather in the forecast. We have a 20' cuddy that cut through the rollers with no problem. Just remember Mackinaw area you are in the straights and it can go from calm to tragic in just a few moments. |

Yeah you're right... we'll go to the locks and turn around. The high-speed ferries are a pretty neat experience anyways. We're getting pumped to camp at Aloha in July... long trek out from Massachusetts though. |
