Hi,

We are looking at starting in Watersmeet on Thursday February 12th and riding to Houghton to spend the night.  Day two we would like to explore the Kewaunee Peninsula and back to Houghton.  Day three would be back to Watersmeet.  I will be going with my wife and would like to ride about 125 miles/day.  Any suggestions on trails and places to stop would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You.

Just got back from doing this similar trip.  We started in Boulder Junction, WI and went up through Gogebic and then came down through Watersmeet.  We also did ALL of the side trips-Dam's, Lookouts, Freda's Loop, Dreamland and others for a total of 500 over 3 days.  Conditions were the BEST I have experienced in riding for the past 15 years.  All trails were tabletop smooth.  As for route-a lot of it will be railroad grade so you can make pretty good time on smooth trails.Watersmeet/Bruces Crossing/Rockland onto trail 3 is a nice way to go and "Henry's Never Inn" serves up a great Pastie in Rockland.  ParkView Hotel is on the trail about 7-10 miles past the trestle bridges and is 22 miles from Houghton and a nice rest stop.  Then on up trail 3 to Houghton/Hancock.  The "Library" in Houghton has a good dinner, craft brewery and a great view of the river and the ski hill-Mt. Ripley.  It is past the lift bridge on trail and beyond the new library on your left with parking out back for sleds.  The Best Western has a good restaurant just a little further up.  Up to Copper Harbor-Take the North West Side out of Hancock and it is 65 miles to Copper Harbor.  Take the Brockaway Mountain Trail if weather is clear as the view is phenomenal and then you look out over Copper Harbor on your way into town.   Lunch at the Mariner North.  Only one Gas Stop at West end of town with the guy in the box.  Then out of the far end of town and down through Lac Labelle and Gay.  Gay bar is a good stop as it is halfway back.  Hancock has the Ramada which is just across the Lift Bridge and offers a surprisingly good dinner.  Huge Prime Rib last weekend!!  Back Down from Houghton-Cut off after Parkview hotel to Alston and Sidnaw-Trail #109.  In Sidnaw is a Dive Bar called Trails End right before the RR Grade and they do OK for lunch.  It isn't marked well, but, you drive right through their parking across the street.  Turn South out of Kenton on 107 to 2 and into Watersmeet.  If you are still interested in a short ride-Continue down to Land O Lakes and go to the Gateway Lodge.  Rustic old playground for the Rich and Famous from days gone bye.  Lot's of character and if Cliff is working the bar, you have to ask for a magic trick.  Check the History in the halls.  Dinner special last weekend was a Surf and Turf for $30.  Have Fun!!
