| hi guys Matt from ohio...never owned my own sleds till this year and I have a few questions..should I register my sleds in mich or ohio???I plan on riding in both states..my state allows you to have an out of town lic just pay the trail fees..also we visit family in marquette mich in the up..never riden there and want to take our new used sleds. For beginners we bought a couples sleds(both 1994 580 ext/arctic cats)one a mountain powder..No reverse,no electric start, one has 3700 miles and the other(his)with 8300 miles...both seem to run awesome should I be leary about the higher mileage sled????any good answers to these questions will be greatly appreciated...thanks Matt...

| Well I'm no expert on cats so Ill pass on that. The registration will be more user friendly (to you) if you go with mi. Reason is that oh only gives you one sticker`,so when they are checking for permits, or maybe just pass you on a trail,if they see the side w/no sticker, its a garenteed stop.It gets old after a while. Some of the guys I ride w/from ohio register there, and we have been stopped as many as 4 times in one day.The hassel isnt worth it imo.

As long as they were well maintained there shouldn't be a problem. Stop in and see Bob at the Adventure Center in Marquette (corner of M553 and CR 480/the Crossroads). He's the CAT expert up there.
I agree on the registration issue. Register them here in MI to make life ALOT easier.

But ya know what SUCKS? Bought my sled new in Sept. 2000.Got it registered when I bought it-Sept. They sent me a notice to renew my registration in Aug. and it got buried under stuff on da kitchen table. NOW,its past due and they're gonna charge me Extra to get it renewed.Sorry I wasn't thinkin bout sleddin in Aug. but WHY charge me Extra if I wasn't even usin it??? What a Rip-off!!

You dont have to register your sled in other states to ride there. Just have to buy a trail permit.

| We live in indiana, I register all 4 sleds in indiana, just like I am supposed to. I buy a trail permit in Michigan for all sleds. When I ride in WI we also buy permits for WI and so forth for MN. I believe this is what the DNR is requesting, you should register and display the home base state you live in. At the end of the year I always have at least three trail permits on each sled. Allan

I too live in Indiana. Ride both in Wisconsin & Michigan. But will register my sleds in Wisconsin. They will accept anyone's money, no matter what state you reside in. No extra $$ for a Wisconsin trail permit if it has Wisconsin Registration.
Screw Indiana. Why pay them for my sleds to sit in the trailer?

The law in Indiana that made you pay a yearly county tax on your machines just for owning them was repealed and doesn't exist anymore.. Look in the latest issue of just about any snowmobile magazine. I have seen articles stating this written by your guys in Indiana who maintain your trails. They also said because of many who register in other states that the trail fund in Indiana will be empty in 2 years if there isn't a increase in sled registrations.
Just my $.02 I hate to see any states trails in trouble...
