I'll be the first to start the Polaris forum I guess! I have a 2001 SuperSport and over the last few years I've had a problem with the sled running really rich on oil. During the day it runs great down the trail and I never have a problem. After it sits all night and I try to pull it over, it feels like I'm pulling through sludge and trying to turn over a 1200 that's hydro-locked. Once I pull it over 10 times and change out the fouled plugs, we're good to go again for the day. It's also using about twice as much oil as the other guys I ride with. I am currently rebuilding the carbs and I found that the oil pump portion of my throttle cable was kind of sticking, but I didn't think enough to cause this issue. Has anyone had this issue before that might be able to give me a little insite? Thanks.

Hello my name is Terry. I have a 2002 Super Sport 1500 miles on it. It has blown up 2 times so far, once with 600 miles, burned the clutch side piston, fixed it ran for 900 miles or so burned the second one, took it apart and clutch side again, gone, fan side cylinder walls are all scored. Having it rebored, new top end complete. I have read countless stories about the 550 time bomb, I would get rid of the piece of junk but there not worth much, it is my wifes machine it still looks like new! I have a private mechanic fixing it now he says he will re-jet it and he is sure we won't have any more problems. Good luck, Terry

I'm sorry to hear about your problems with your sled! I have about 3800 miles on mine still on the original motor and it has proved to be a very reliable sled! Other than the tough start and carb/oil issues I can't complain at all. I know you have heard stories about the 550 time bomb, but I've also heard about many 550 engines running to over 10,000 miles without being rebuilt. It sounds like yours is not using the proper amount of oil for engine failure like that. Now we have one using too much and one not using enough! LOL.... good luck!
