i was told that the state of michigan was not going to give out the grant for trail grooming 2009-2010 season is this true does anybody know about this. Would like to move back up to the UP in the next few years. Hate it in ohio but it is where  I am from. I work at Caterpillar as a heavy equipment mechanic try to find something like that up there.

Yep, thats what I know from the MSA

I don't believe that to be true at all.  The grant money is only allowed to be used for snowmobile trail maintenance and nothing else, because it is funded only by snowmobile trail permits and registrations.  The state projects the funds in 09/10 will not be enough to maintain the current level of grooming   due to less machines being registered and fuel and equipment costs.  That is why the cost of registration and trail permits is going up for the 09/10 season.  That is how it was explained to me,  if I was misinformed, someone please correct me.:)

can you tell if permits went up already. someone said not until 09. we dont mind paying the extra $10 . if it means nice trails. its well worth it. we're from downstate and we come up there at least 7weekends a yr. and our 2wks vacation we spend up north. I also think anyone who uses the trails should pay. not just the snowmobilers. we spend alot more money to use those trails. Not to mention food, GAS, and lodging. Well doesnt matter to me. Im sure ill pay it. Cause theres nothing like fresh powder and being out in nature. the picture proves it.

Permits will NOT increase until next (09/10) season.  I agree...no problem with the increase here.
