I'm from Pittsburgh Pa. a group of 4-7  of us come up to Mi. for a week and a few long weekends to snowmobile, we  like the well gromed trails and don't mind paying the ten extra dollors. no where else in the U.S. can you sled for $25.00 or $35.00 (if they raise the price) a year. Pa. has a $20.00 registration every two years and not to many trails they groom. keep up the great job groming the trails.

What will the excuses be now.  Gas is under two bucks and fuel is under three.

How about....... They need to put  new air in the tracks?

That's funny. According to the MSA your club doesn't even exist.

Besides, I thought this was about the MSA?  Not individual clubs.

My beef is with the MSA, not you.  But if you want it that way, thats fine.

And yes I am an MSA member.  I used to be proud of it until I saw the funding report.  Lets see the name of your club,  Its not Kalkaska or Blue bear on the report.

Lets just see how much money you received.  If you want to play like that.  I bet you groomed 120 days last year as well.

Like I said "idiot". JVTC is Jordan Valley Trails Council, and we are the largest grant sponser in the lower. We run 5 groomers and every trail under our grant is groomed 1 time /24 hrs minimum, weather permitting. Most are also groomed 2 times /24 hrs  on w/e.The MSA does not groom anything,The grant sponsers do.If you knew Anything about the trais in the nw lower, you would know that the "bear" is a 34 mile trail segment that I coodinate, and that the clubs (kalkaska, antrim county, east jordan, and charlevoix) make up the grooming council. You really should check your facts before you start running your mouth.

And another thing on a personal note, dont trifle with me,my credentials and reputation in the nw lower are impecable. You can check me out on HCS (hardcore sledder.com/michigan forums to you) or JVTC. ORG ,the mancelona chamber of commerce,  or most of the the sled related businesses in this area..How are your references?

NO my keyboard wasn't broken.  I'm glad you have a stong voice for the snowmobiling community.  But what is the increase going to solve? Did you notice less traffic on the trails last year??

Grooming doesn't count if your just smoothing out the trails around the yard. You actually have to go out on the trail.

I see they just change the bill that is on its way to the senate.  It's suppose to eliminate the late fee, buying your permit after November 15th.  And so far they took a lot of the increase of they top that they were originally wanting.  From 75 to 45.

My current address is in St. Louis at the DOC.  But I will be sure to look you up this winter.   I wasn't poking fun at you, but the MSA.  But thats ok.  After winter is over, I'll be expecting your tax dollars to help pay my room and board.

The increase is going to help keep up with inflation costs of just maintaining our current levelof maintainence. Our trail counters showed no decrease in traffic, and niether did I. Its hard to say there is more or lessfrom the tractor seat when you only do it a couple times a week, but since I do 3 runs on the w/e and usually 4 during the week,I have a pretty good handle on it.Our area, especially the bear,is a snowbelt area, when there is marginal or no snow other places, every one comes here, because if we dont have it,usually no one does.I guess I dont understand what you mean by "smoothing out the yard".The changes in the bill are for the better,I never did support the late fee thing, and 45 is realistic.Pokeing fun at MSA is (I guess) OK, but they are only a lobbying group, they groom and maintain nothing. The vollunteer labor that actually does the work has to be a very dedicated group,From oct to may,I will average 30 t0 as much as 70 hrs a week for nothing other than the satisfaction of seeing a difference in the trail system. So you have to be very careful when you start pokeing fun or makeing what could be interpreted as a derogatory statement.Frankly,I you had said that on HCS,youd have had a dozen people jumping down your throat. This is a site that really doesnt get many hits. Not mine,I dont pay taxes anymore.

I have enjoyed your reports and pics that you post. I live in Toledo and we always ride in your area. The blue Bear is awsome. You can ride from any parking place and jump on the trail and it is always a nice ride. We stay in Lewiston and sometimes trailer over to Mancelona and ride from there when they have more snow. Some riders from out of state really do appreicate all the hard work the locals put in.

We also live in IN and drive up 8 to 10 weekends in the winter.  Michigan has the best trail system and we would absolutely pay more for the trail pass. We save all year to enjoy our snowmobiles and even with the increase in fuel and hotels we feel it important to bring the kids and show them what a great time we can have together.  The trails have been bumpy at times but hats off to the groomers who do the best they can, upkeep has to be difficult.

The Jordan Valley Trails Council does a great job. They have expanded their duties to two other system as late and I always see them out working. I took this photo last January early morning while I was checking the trail conditions. DMG, liftime MSA member and liftime snowmobiler!

Good point made on the out of staters not being around to volunteer and help out.  I am an out of state rider and I feel it is totally fair for us to pay a little more to make up for stuff like that. An extra $10 per sled is not going to discourage me.  I try and keep up on the politics of the groomers and what they get and why but a lot of that is lost on someone like me from IN where riding is obsolete and my snowmobile is frowned upon.  Reading all of your comments helps us to tune in more and help out where we can.

WOW that is a dumb idea. nothing better than spending 10 hours in a truck $400 on diesel to get to the cabin that you payed $800 for the week plus food for your family and gas and oil for your sleds. NOW DOES THAT SOUND LIKE A GOOD IDEA TO MAKE PERMITS HIGHER TO THE PEOPLE OUT OF STATE?:?  give a break man i donate over $200 dollars to the trail groomers while we are up on are big trips. I love the trails I lived in ontanogon county when i was stationed in the coast gaurd Houghton. The snowmobilers that come back year after year, you know the guys that are booking thier cabin for the next year before they leave the trip they are already on. Like me keep little towns alive in the winter.

can you tell if permits went up already. someone said not until 09. we dont mind paying the extra $10 . if it means nice trails. its well worth it. we're from downstate and we come up there at least 7weekends a yr. and our 2wks vacation we spend up north. I also think anyone who uses the trails should pay. not just the snowmobilers. we spend alot more money to use those trails. Not to mention food, GAS, and lodging. Well doesnt matter to me. Im sure ill pay it. Cause theres nothing like fresh powder and being out in nature. the picture proves it.
