| Just wanted to let everyone know that according to the Crawford County Avalanche, the county is expected to vote to allow ORV's on county roads. The vote is expected to take place on April 3, 2009. Once the vote is taken, that will be another county added to the list of open roads, but of course one must check t osee which roads are closed and open.

| Sue, we are going to be comming up there more with our quads now that they are going to start opening the roads for us to get to the trail heads, where can I find out what counties are opening up the roads? I went to the waco road trail head late last fall and we are talking about going back, but the parking is bad no room for a truck and a 21' trailer, where as if I could stay at that camp ground on 18 in prudenville and ride to the trail that would be great! talking about going up around atlanta / black lake area also.

Joe,
I am not sure just where to check as to what counties are open and which ones are not. Perhaps the DNR's website or one time I just keyed in Michigan Country roads open to ATV's and got a list of which ones are open so far. I don't ride an ATV, never have but have had an interest in it. This area in Otsego County doesn't have anyplace to really ride one, so it would be a case of having to ride the road shoulders to where a trailhead is. Otsego County is expected to open it's roads next month as well. I do know that there are routes in Roscommon County open, but not sure just where. Spicer's Boat City knows about it, that's where I found out about it. Good luck and have fun, ride safe.

| Kalkaska county is open.All roads except M and US.Must ride on the unmaintained part at no more than 25 mph.This does not include golf carts.

Thank you all, I will post it when we are planing on comming up that way, no going to be till the weather warms up some and I get my big boat in the water and all my yard work done.

It looks like this is close to a done deal. They are just working on some of the roads the atv's will be able to ride on. I believe they said possibly by May 20th it could be finalized. Not a 100% sure. Happy trails & good day

| Well it looks like the ordinance was passed. If you go to the Crawford county website they have the new rules on there. It's about 4 pages long. Good day & happy trails

| Wilbur Township out in the woods between Oscoda & Tawas will let U ride on designated roads there too.I don't know where U can find the ordinance,but they've got signs posted on the roads-one right near my brothers driveway.

| We were orving (dunebuggy's) on the snomobile trail 79 I beleive, at the m72 snomobile parking lot, in Kalkaska co. near bear lake. we were going to head south toward higgins lakegot down that trail about 7 miles, and low and behold all of a sudden, it says no orvs, so it deadends to nowhere. there was a crossing trail (orv) but it was to narrow to get our buggys thru, so we just kept on going cause i knew by by gps there was a county dirt road near the river there, this was the stupidist thing i have seen. It looks like you have to turn around and go back. I do have a question, If I was street legal (like all the deer hunters) then am I able to travel anywhere, like them to hunt?? how does this work? anyone know?

you are allowed to travel on any orv routes, and depending on the county the shoulder of the road at 25mph. if your buggy is under 50" in width you may travel orv trails. please stay on the trails no cross country, hunters are only allowed to ride in to collect a kill and only under special circumstances specified in the dnr orv guide

| Yes, we stay on the marked over 50" orv trails, that trail is marked for cars and all orv's, my question is, do you know this part of the trail I am talking about? It dead ends to all orvs, at least it had a little orange sign that said"no orv's ( meaning all). So what your saying a hunter cant drive in deep into the woods, a regular two track, state land, to JUST get to his blind? He has to walk in, unless to drive in to get his kill?

November 15 to November 30 ORV quiet time is in effect you may not operate a ORV during the times of 7am to 11am and 2pm to 5pm unless :
ORV's traveling to or from a residence or hunting camp that is inaccessable by a conventional vehicle
ORV's being operated on private property
Licensen hunters retring game
Hunters who have on their person a valid Michigan huntin permit, issued to themselves, may operate their ORV on Michigan State Forest Roads as well as in a 'CROSS-COUNTRY" manner as long as both of the following conditions have been met: you are operating the ORV at no more that 5 mph & you huntin permit is for; and you are retirieving game such as deer, bear, or elk. Hunters meeting these conditions are exemp from the ORV quiet time restriction.
