I just bought a used 1998 mxz 670. What kind of two cycle oil do I need? Can I get by with just some tcw-3 stuff from valvoline I can get at the corner gas station?
I run the ski- doo XP mineral oil in my sled as a preference, but I know a lot of people that run yamalube or AMS oil. Other than them I don’t know as to the quality of the oil. Hope this helps.
I have always run brand specific oil in my sleds, until a couple of years ago anyways. A friend of mine who has a shop has bugged me for a few years to run injex pro. He has a combined total of around 50,000 between himself, brother, brother-in-law, and father. I would have to say I really like it. I put between 2000-3000 a year on and have noticed that I don't need to clean my rave valves at all. Just my preseason clean that's all. Plus you get a semi-semthetic for the price of a brand mineral oil. Just my two cents. Yama lube is very good also. The only thing I would sugest is run one oil at a time in your tank. I don't think I would be mixing it very much.
Sorry for the late reply on your question. Because TCW-3 oils are specially-formulated to work in the marine environment (warmer temps, water) we and Bombardier do not recommend using them in your snowmobile. You can get by using TCW-3 but you will shorten the life of your motor if you do. Bombardier recommends mineral-grade oil for that year and model Ski-Doo. If you really want to take extra care you can step up to Bombardier synthetic oil but it's not necessary. You can save yourself some money and take great care of your sled with standard Bombardier mineral oil. Happy Trails! Burt Lake Marina
I use Citgo Sea & Snow, It costs under $12/gal at Meijers and Quality Farm and Fleet (or whatever it's called now). It is a semi-synthetic with jaso cert.
I wish I could find a none venezuela owned alternative oil for the same price but haven't found one yet and I'm not paying $34.99/gal for the Ski-Doo stuff.
It is safe for RAV valves and it keeps mine clean too.
