Hello,

I am busy planning our January cross-U.P. snowmobile trip. We always start in Mercer, WI and ride to the Soo, up to Copper Harbor, and back to Mercer in five days. This year we are thinking about taking a slightly different route on day 1 that is from Mercer to Munising. We normally ride to Watersmeet, north to Sidnaw, then take trail #8 across to Ishpeming, down to Gwinn, and over to Munising.

For this January, we are thinking about riding from Watersmeet to Crystal Falls, to Randville, then north on trail #5 to Silver Lake, then east on trail #32 to Gwinn and then on to Munising. The problem is that nobody in our group has ridden these trails before. I have been looking for people that have ridden these trails on various web sites without any luck.

So, what I would like to know is the following:
- What is trail #32 like from Silver Lake to Gwinn? That is, is it tight and twisty and hence slow going? Is it old logging roads where a moderate pace can be maintained? Or is it very wide open logging road or power line were a fast pace can be maintained?

Also, is there any place to get fuel between Crystal Falls and Gwinn? We have a couple of 2-strokes in our group that struggle going more than 100 miles without filling up so I need to make sure they don't run out of fuel.

I've estimated the mileage for this route to be 280 miles from Mercer to Munising and if the trails are tight and twisty, i.e. slow going, then this day might be too long.

Thank you for help.

There is a well marked Fuel Station on hwy 95. A mile & 1/2  North of trail 16 in Sagola.

(BP I think)

From there you'll be able to make it to Gwinn.  (Mobile)

Careful on the circle getting on trial 5 North, it can be tricky.

Chatam looked to have had fuel at a bar on the South side of the trail, But i didn't stop.

Trail 32 is mostly winding & senic.  I did the route last yr From East to West on a 2 stroke that did fine w/ a 100 mile tank.

I highly recommend staying at the Northern Lights at Little Lake. Nice people, comfy place w/ wireless internet access.

Hope this helps
